SECTION: Opening remarks

Bogdanovich told about when he first was invited to Hitchcock's hotelroom. When they were on their way out and stepped into the elevator, Hitchcock suddenly started telling a blood and guts story. He went on and on about there being blood everywhere and stuff until they had reached the ground floor and everyone had left. But Hitchcock never finished the story until Bogdanovich asked him about the end and Hitchcock said: "There is no end, that was just my elevator story."

SECTION I: THE BIRDS

Funny commercial (broadcasted Aug 13, 1961) with a little kid looking Tippi up and down after drinking SEGO, have now got part of it in documentary shown on swedish TV, August 13, 1999.
Tippi's walk resembled the one shot for the first scene in The Birds.
Wonderful to hear Balsam and Hitchcock's comments during screen tests, done in late 1961.
Not so funny though, to hear Bogdanovich mentioning that they wouldn't show Hedren and Balsam in a screen test with a scene from To Catch A Thief, which I later saw a part of at the exhibition but with the sound turned off.

SECTION II: WESTCLIFF ADDRESS

Wonderful to hear Hitchcock in a lengthy monologue, filmed at the oldest studio at Universal, addressed to a film club in the same maner as the speaches made for his TV series. Among other things Hitchcock goes through a long list of London suburbs.
Have got this on videotape as of June 5, 2000.

SECTION III: FRENZY

Documentary footage from the scene in the alley just after the office murder scene. Great to see Hitchcock first in a very relaxed discussion with actress Jean Marsh, about living in the States and then see him direct the cameraman and finally after three takes ordering the two ladies walking by, to change clothes from short skirts to something that might not go out of fashion as quickly.

SECTION IV: HOME MOVIES

There was some clips that were in the Family Portraits documentary that was run on AMC, but also some clips from Hitchcock directing the kiss in Blackmail but strangely without sound. They are even included on "The Criterion Collection" LaserDisc with sound.

SECTION V: PSYCHO

The trailers and most of the footage shown from the Premiere are included on the Special Edition LaserDisc and DVD.
Bogdanovich also told a story about the Premiere of Psycho, to which 500 journalists were invited together with 1000 ticket holders, on separate floors. Everyone was told not to give away the story to anyone else. The killing of Marion in the shower was a shock to everyone. Many thought she would come back later in the film.
Janet Leigh were just as wonderful as she was at AFI's Life Achievement Award Ceremony in 1979.
Have got the Psycho "policy" trailer on videotape as of June 5, 2000.
